I understand that many people overlook the importance of grooming their dog for many reasons. One of those reasons is money, and believe me I understand! However I can't stress to you more the importance of grooming, especially for a long haired dog.
Long haired dogs are prone to getting mats in their fur and this is not only unsightly but can be painful for the dog. Every dog wants to feel and look good. Sure you can just cut the mat out, but then you leave a huge bald spot on your pet. Professional groomers have the knowledge and the tools to get the mats out without injury of discomfort to your pet.
Nails are another thing that should never be neglected. A dogs toe nails should be trimmed on a regular basis. A regular basis would be to have them trimmed every 4 to 8 weeks. Keeping the nails trimmed will help to maintain the structure of your dogs foot and prevent costly vet bills. Why would you have costly vet bills? Long nails put pressure on the nail bed of your dog's foot and can cause a bad infection in the foot.
